I enjoy hearing what other families do for the holidays, so I thought I'd share some of our Christmas traditions.
1) Each year, Momma gets to buy a new snowglobe. The kids sometimes throw in their opinions, but I get the final say. I try to get some nontraditional ones as well -- this is my favorite one because it's pink!
Each person in the family also gets to pick out a new ornament for the tree each year -- anything goes. There are some interesting ornaments on my tree!
3) I am building up a collection of Christmas books, that only come out at Christmas time. The "rule" is that they must be read near the tree, for full effect. When we bring them out, the kids get very excited and you'd think it was Christmas day!
5) I usually try to ignore the fact that the kids move the decorations around from where I originally place them. I purposely do not buy anything that is either breakable or very expensive, for just such a reason. This Santa has found his way to the middle of the stairwell. The hilarious thing is that Ava is going through some kind of crazy phase where she is scared of something new each day. Luckily it is not cumulative -- she picks one thing each day, and the next day will forget about it and pick a new thing. Today, it was the Santa. She cried at the end of the stairs this morning, refusing to ascend unescorted, because "I scared Santa!!!"
So, go ahead and leave a comment about your own family traditions, or post on your blog, I'd love to hear 'em!
