Today was a beautiful fall day. A welcome thing here in Texas, where summer usually tries its best to hang on till the end of October. Last night Ryan took the girls down to the lake and came back with a box full of teeny tiny frogs. Our kids are definitely nature lovers, so this was the usual for them. We all agreed that today after school we would take them back down to the lake so they could go back to their home. Here we have Delaney letting them free while Sadie is on the hunt for some new ones.
The place they are standing is usually underwater, but this area has been so dry that the lake level is extraordinarily low.
Frogs make a critter-lovin' little girl so happy!
After awhile I told Sadie to let him go, but she just said,"no, I want to hold him a little bit more." And then she gave him a little smooch. :-)
I had the choice of either lugging Ava around in my arms trying to keep her out of the water, or letting her down so that we could both relax and enjoy our stay a little. And so, let the dirtyness begin.
I know that some of you reading this will think I'm nuts, but she had the time of her life, as did I, and there is plenty of time to be clean when get home.
Delaney is quite the hunter. If she doesn't grow up to be some kind of biologist, it will be a gift going unused, that's for sure. Notice behind her the "floating" dock which isn't exactly floating right now.
She was nice enough to catch a frog for her Momma, who was much too slow to catch one herself. Can you believe how tiny they are?
Everyone follows the leader.....
It was fun. And it's fun to come home and get cleaned up and talk about what we did and saw. It made me a little sad that Josh missed it since he was at his school. He spends too much of his day inside a classroom filling out worksheet after worksheet of stuff he already knows. There are a few things I like about his school, but none of the important stuff. It has become apparent that there will be very little done to keep him challenged at this school, and it is definitely not a permanent solution. Thus, I have been spending most of my time looking for the solution to this predicament, but haven't quite found it yet. This last week I attended the open house for a private school that I really loved, but it was too far away and too expensive to be practical for us. But I think we are getting closer to finding a better fit for what we want. I will keep you posted. In the meantime, there are a few more pictures in the October file to your left. Have a great weekend!
Yes, you are crazy, but it looks like Ava had a blast.
