final garden update of 2009

Well . . . all I can say about this year is:  I tried!  I thought if I bought "quality" (i.e. expensive) seeds that things would go well.  Not true.  Most of the flowers that we planted did not come up at all, and the one that did refused to make even one flower until I threatened to rip it out (then of course it did make a lousy flower and the kids won't let me do anything to it).  Our watermelon grew a nice plant and blossomed, but no fruit.

Here's my teddy bear sunflower.  I don't think it liked our record 105-degree heat.

My tomatoes got blossom rot from being too close to the roof and getting a little too much rain early in the season (and then baked to death later).

After the fact I read a book specifically about Texas gardening, and had I read that beforehand, I wouldn't have expected so much this summer.  Basically it says that summer gardening is for fun and hard to execute, that you should plan to go for broke in the fall.

Of course, we are baked to a crisp here this summer due to an unrelenting weather pattern, but then El Nino is supposed to catch up and we're going to have a very soggy fall.

I have made the executive decision that we're giving up for this year and we'll try again next spring!

Ok, I found a USB cord, I downloaded some pictures, and I even took a few today.  It's comin' back to me.

I can't seem to find the USB cable to download some pictures, I'm guessing my husband has taken off with it.  Here's the quick rundown of the happenings here, in googled pictures.

reading nook

I came into the girls' room one morning to find a comforter "wall" over the bottom bunk bed.  I lifted the corner and found Josh & Delaney peacefully reading a cat encyclopedia together.  Buried in stuffed animals, I might add.

You can get a good idea for the new color in the girls' room from this picture.  It changes from a light blue in natural light to a lavender when the light is on in their room.  You can also see that Ryan finished painting the beds white, and it looks really great!

doctor's orders

My doctor has again informed me that I need to DE-stressssssssssssssssssssssss.  Turns out I wasn't allergic to any of the 20 or so things that people with burned-up eyelids normally are allergic to, so??  Long story short, I am back to slowly adding beauty products back into my life.  Next up, gotta go get my hair done!  And also, most if not all of my dermatological issues can point back to pent-up stress.  Either that or I am depressed and don't realize it.  :-D

So the doctor says I have to relax (and exercise and rest and all of the other stuff you're supposed to do), so I'm thinking that something like this is in order:

ASAP.
